Digging the DirtGeneral Information Kudos Reviews Sample Column Sponsorship Syndication Details Feature Length Monthly Gardening Column Focusing on Organic & Bio-Diverse Practices Zone 8 and nearby Mountain and Coastal Climates General InformationDigging the Dirt appears monthly in the Two Rivers Tribune. Readership is about 3,000 people primarily in the Klamath Trinity region in Northern CA. The column is written with a wide range of lifestyles and a limited range of climates in mind. Most of the current readership lives in USDA zone eight; however we have readers living in milder coastal areas and in the much colder mountains - so tips are included for them as well. Instructions are given for those who like to do everything themselves from scratch and for those who just want to tuck and run. I try to keep the cost of plants, products, seeds, and projects mentioned in the very reasonable range. Do-it yourselfers are offered ideas on using free or recycled materials; as well as offering those with more discerning taste ways to do things that are more up-scale. Columns typically are written the last week of the month to appear on the first Wednesday of each month. Topics are often outlined well in advance. Keep this in mind when contacting me about including any content related to your projects or businesses. While the column focuses on organic gardening, sources of plants and seeds do not need to be organic. All soil amendments, fertilizers, and pest control products mentioned are definitely organic, bio-diverse, and sustainable. Books mentioned also support this type of gardening and landscaping, however, if they mention chemicals in a minor way I still might consider them for mention. For those of you promoting seeds and plants, I only write about things I have grown out in my garden. Currently, I am interested suggestions for vegetables and unusual edibles. I am particularly interested in heirlooms, ethnic foods, and herbs for seasoning. I have recently planted out some fruiting trees and shrubs so I won’t be looking for additional plants in those categories for some time. I have more than enough ornamentals to keep me busy for a while, but I do still have an interest in late winter and early spring ephemerals.
